Mill Pond Management Plan

Thank you to all who attended the mill pond overlook meeting. The comments submitted were thoughtful and well considered. For those of who were not able to be there, we have posted a copy of the presentation which was given by Cameron engineering.   2. Your inventory should include the river otter.
    Although it is probably outside of the scope of your project, some mention should be made of the fact that two roadkill otters have been found on the main road north of the pond. It appears that the Mill Pond Dam poses an obstacle for otters, forcing them to cross the roadway.

    A recent study found that this important top-of-the-food chain mammal is slowly making a comeback on Long Island, and the Cold Spring Harbor area on the north shore of Nassau County seems to be the place where they have gained a foot hold and are successfully breeding. Otters would greatly benefit from a modification of the dam area that would allow safe passage under the road at that location.
